How do I copy / paste items in Project Central?

Users can use the copy / paste functionality in Project Central in order to reduce the amount of time that it takes to add multiple items to a project schedule one by one. Copying and pasting can only be done on the same level within a project hierarchy. This article describes how to copy and paste items in Project Central.

Note: When an item is copied to another location within the project schedule, the team members, tags, custom fields, and descendants are copied to the new item. Status reports, issues, risks, action items, documents, measures, metrics, costs, and history are not copied to the new item.

Note: Users must have the "Create Root Work" permission in order to copy / paste items in Project Central.

1. Click Copy

  1. Locate the line item that you want to copy.
  2. Click on the context sensitive menu to view the selections.
  3. Click Copy.

Note: Only items created from work and milestones can be copied. Gates, folders, and action items cannot be copied.

2. Click Paste After

  1. Locate the line item that you want to paste the copied item after.
  2. Click on the context sensitive menu to view the selections.
  3. Click Paste after.

3. View Copied Item

  • View the copied item. The task and its children were copied to the new location in the project schedule. Start and end dates will be updated automatically by the scheduler if necessary based on constraint types and dependencies.

Note: The copied item will stay on the clipboard and can be pasted multiple times if needed.
