What are permission targets?

Permission targets are the objects or features within PowerSteering to which a user can gain access. Permission targets appear on both the Define Categories and Defaults pages and correlate with one another. This article describes the purpose of permission targets.

1. Click Define Categories

Click Define Categories
  1. On the Icon Bar click the Admin button.
  2. Click Permissions to expand the menu, then click Define Categories.

2. View Permission Targets

In PowerSteering, there are 6 fixed permission targets:

  • Project Tasks Note: This permission category is based on the name of your basic work item, so it may differ on your site.
  • Users
  • Groups
  • Metric Templates Note: This permission category will be different if you have replaced Metric with another term under replaceable terms.
  • Contexts
  • Manage Time

Each permission target has a unique fixed list of permissions and administrators can use permission categories on the Define Categories page to customize how these targets are used by whom.

3. Click Defaults

Click Defaults
  1. On the Icon Bar click the Admin button.
  2. Click Permissions to expand the menu, then click Defaults.

4. View Permission Targets

  • Once permission categories have been defined for permission targets on the Define Categories page, the permission targets can then be assigned to permission categories on the Defaults page.
