Portfolio Planning Overview

Who: Administrators

What: Currently portfolios are constructed from portfolio filters, or by explicitly including projects, or both.  While advanced portfolios allow us to exclude projects that cost more than X, there is no way to include some subset of projects where the total cost is Y.  This feature allows us to manipulate the portfolio mix directly within the dashboard.  The columns in the dashboard, for example metrics and measures, dashboard filtering and totaling, etc. can be used to decide the projects to be included in a given portfolio.  This feature also provides the utility to clean up portfolio definitions.

Why: Users require the ability to easily manipulate portfolio membership based on the set of  projects in the portfolio.  For instance, the user decides to include some subset of projects where the total cost equal to or less than $1.5M.  This tool can be particularly robust used in conjunction with the portfolio variations and portfolio comparisons functions to view different configurations of the same portfolio side by side for planning and optimization purposes.
